The Accelerated Program enhances our curriculum by addressing the unique learning needs of high-ability children. The Accel Program enriches and accelerates Language Arts and Math to students in grades 3-8. The following criterion is used to place students in the program:
o Teacher recommendation
o Classroom performance (report card)
o Student motivation
The identification process begins in the 2nd grade. Currently enrolled students in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are considered based on teacher recommendations completed in April of each school year.
Once teacher recommendations and are received, the teacher committee will review each recommendations. The teacher committee will complete the identification process after considering the additional criteria stated above.
New students attending Saint Andrew will be placed in the grade level classroom. The teacher committee will review the new student’s file, and the classroom teacher will assess the student.
The Accelerated Program is flexible; students may be placed in Language Arts, Math or both. Students are consistently being assessed to ensure proper placement in the program. Our goal is for each student to be in an academic environment that creates the ‘just right’ challenge.
