Welcome back and Happy New Year! The Christmas break, which was 'backloaded', was worth the wait! We hope the time off was well spent and that everybody is eager to get off to a fast start in the 'second half'.
Congratulations to all of our students for their outstanding performance at our Christmas Concert. The students were all in good voice and helped us begin the break on an uplifting note and ready to celebrate the birth of Our Savior. Mr. Young, with the support of each teacher, gets the most out of each class for the concert. The Christmas Concert has become a time honored Saint Andrew tradition!
All of the pre-Christmas parties, concerts, plays and presentations at school were well done. Thank you for supporting these in class activities!
We are proud of all of our Saint Andrew Alumni and every once in awhile we receive news that makes our buttons bust just a little bit more! The following eleven Alums (who are HS Seniors) have been named as Illinois State Scholars: Erika Woosman, Alexis Hansen, Vince Costello, and Maddie Monticello all from Lane College Prep; Max Bobel and Leigh Kinsler from Loyola Academy; John Madura and Daniel McFarland from St. Ignatius College Prep; Regina Trejo from Regina Dominican; Edward Lee at Lincoln Park HS and Kyrie Agee at De La Salle CP. To be honored as an Illinois State Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment which highlights a student's academic record. Congratulations!
Over break we were saddened to learn of the passing of former Saint Andrew student, Delaney O'Connell. Tonight at 6:30pm there will be a prayer service in our Church to remember this young life taken much too soon.
We also have sad news to share concerning Mr. Bergstrom's wife, Rachel. She lost her valiant struggle with cancer this past Monday. Please keep Mr. Bergstrom in your prayers.
This Saturday, January 14, our 8th Grade Students will be taking entrance exams to the Catholic High School of their choice. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.
The Saint Andrew Freethrow Contest, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Brownstone Council will be held on Sunday January 22 in our gym starting at 4:30pm. The contest is open to students between the ages of 9 and 14. We thank the Knights for their support of Saint Andrew School!
Our Community Events continue on January 19 with lunch or dinner at Tuco and Blondie, 3358 N. Southport. Take a break from cooking and join your Saint Andrew neighbors and friends in the spirit of Saint Andrew! Proceeds from this event benefit our Social Studies Curriculum.
Our annual Super School Sunday will be held on Sunday, January 29! Super School Sunday begins with Family Mass in Church, followed by our Pancake Breakfast, followed by an open house tour conducted by those who know Saint Andrew best- your children! This year we will be conducting school tours for prospective families who are considering Saint Andrew School for their children's education at 9am. These prospective families are invited to join us for Mass and Pancakes! Please share this good news with your relatives, neighbors and friends! Please look for the flier regarding Super School Sunday in today's backpack.
