Hello Everybody!

The excitement is building as we are looking forward to the start of the new school year! Opening day of a school year is comparable to opening day of the baseball season; hopes are high, every team is a contender and the potential for greatness is unlimited! A new school year energizes students to improve on their academics, build upon their social network by joining a team or activity as they challenge themselves to be the very best that they can be! We cannot wait to get started!

When you visit campus you will notice several improvements, many of them I mentioned last week in the update. You will also notice the installation of our Pillars of Faith along the school wall on Addison. The Pillars add so much to our schools vibrancy! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who sponsored a Pillar or worked as a volunteer on the project. You are the greatest!

We are reviewing Aspire scores with our teachers prior to opening day. Our plan is mail you your child's results grade by grade beginning with this year's 8th Graders.Our goal is to have this task completed by August 29.

We are excited to be working with our new lunch provider, Healthy Kids Kitchen. The deadline for ordering lunches for August and September is August 25. Please click the link for ordering instructions at

Please help us, help you! Saint Andrew School is mandated by State law to be in compliance with regard to immunizations and physicals. All students in the 6th Grade, Kindergarten, Preschool, Transitions and all students newly enrolled at Saint Andrew must provide documentation proving compliance with immunizations and physicals. The deadline for State compliance is October 1. After that date students without proof of compliance will be denied admission to school. Additionally, all students in 6th Grade, Kindergarten and students new to an Illinois school are required to provide documentation of an eye exam. Should you have any questions or concerns please contact our School Nurse, Mrs. Madura. Please keep in mind that all students participating in the Saint Andrew Athletic Program must have an Athletic Physical to be eligible for play.

The work of Mrs. Ruscille and Mrs. Bush has done so much to service our students who have an IEP or a 504 plan. In order to service every student who benefits from this instruction we ask your flexibility in scheduling. We may not be able to accommodate requested times for service as our goal is to bring equitable instruction to each student. We do our best to schedule what each student needs related to their plans during in school and after school time, while insuring a well rounded educational experience. Please work with us as we schedule in school minutes and please schedule after school activities around our availability. 

Safety and security are at the top of everyone's list these days. The incidents that we read about and see on the news has caused us to reflect on our procedures. One area that has been a glaring gap in our security is during morning drop off. In the past our doors have been open to parents allowing them access to school to walk children to their classrooms. This parental access has also allowed for anyone to access school and has made us vulnerable for bad things. Beginning this school year we can no longer allow parental or visitor access to school during morning drop off. Faculty, along with our student greeters will man our entry doors and remind you that only students will be allowed access from 7:55 until 8:15am. Our Pre-School students will enter school at the Pre-School Room Door located adjacent to the back lot. Parents who have business in school will be required to sign in and wear a name badge for meetings with teachers, or for volunteer duties. This new procedure may inconvenience some of you and for that I apologize. The times are what they are and we need to do everything possible to insure the safety of every student. We will continue to review all of our safety and security policies in an effort to keep everyone safe.

Our school calendar is almost complete and we will have it available next week on our website and at the Ice Cream Social. The calendar is inclusive of all Saint Andrew important dates, including Back to School Orientations.

I am proud to introduce our Faculty for the 2016/2017 school year. Many of our teachers have, or are working towards advanced degrees. Teachers are the backbone of the educational system; Saint Andrew Teachers have a love for learning, teaching and children. We are happy to welcome back our returning teachers and welcome teachers new to Saint Andrew School (* indicates new to Saint Andrew).  This year we are pleased to add a new position to our faculty in the presence of a Licensed Social Worker. This position will do much to help develop our students social and emotional life.

From the Archdiocese: In the early summer, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced its intention to test the water in all Archdiocesan-sponsored Catholic schools for possible lead content. This initiative emerged from lead issues facing other school systems and communities around our country. The Archdiocese of Chicago engaged an environmental consulting firm that collected water samples from all Archdiocesan schools. The water samples are currently being tested and evaluated by an independent laboratory. We expect to have completed results for our school in the next few weeks. We will share the results with you as soon as they are available from our consultants. Please know the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff is our most important priority.

Our Soiree and Scramble is scheduled for Saturday, September 24 at Marovitz Golf Course (Waveland). Shot gun start at 3pm, followed by dinner and entertainment at Fat Cat at 7pm.

Our Running with the Bulldogs 5K is scheduled for October 23 in Lincoln Park

We look forward to seeing everybody at our Open House Meet and Greet at 3:30pm, followed by our Ice Cream Social on the west assembly area at 4pm on Thursday, August 25.

Good habits reinforce student learning. Please make regular Sunday Mass attendance a good habit during the 2016/2017 school year!

Running of the Bulldogs 5K

Save the Date!

Our annual 5K race, Running of the Bulldogs will be held on October 23 at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Come out and celebrate Sunrise Mass at Lincoln Park Zoo (Grove 2, South end) at 8:15am. The race begins at 9:00am followed by the Kids Fun Run at Lincoln Park Zoo!
